Laurel & Hardy

Engraved Stone Paving for Laurel & Hardy Statue

Sunday the 19th of April was a very special day for the beautiful market town of Ulverston. Thousands flocked from all over England and abroad to the town on a sunny day to witness the unveiling of the Laurel and Hardy statue. A dream that started many years ago was fulfilled thanks to the great fundraising effort of the dedicated followers of Laurel and Hardy who are known worldwide as ‘The sons of the Desert’.

Stan Laurel was born in his grandparents' house on 16 June 1890 at 3 Argyle Street, Ulverston and named Arthur Stanley Jefferson. Along with Oliver Hardy they became the most famous comedy act in the world. Today the pair still make people smile and laugh with comedy that will stand the test of time forever.

The statues are placed outside the town's coronation hall which underwent extensive renovation. Our role in the project was to engrave favourite quotes from the comedy duo into slate which was intergrated into new paving, creating a centrepiece for the placement of the statues. We also engraved two commorative plaques recognising all involved in the project.
